Pieniä, hyviä

Josko listaisi pieniä hyviä, arjen iloja tavallista pidemmän työviikon alkuun. Tässä tulisi kymmenen:

Mysteerihuivi on pian valmis,

siitä tulee ihana.

Seinätekstiilit on ripustettu.

Lokakuun kimppu tuoksuhernettä.

Puimuri onnistui korjaamaan sadon lakopellolta.

Aurinkokin on näkynyt.

Hyvää uutta teetä.

Mukava uusi aikakauslehti.

Keskiviikkona savitöitä.

Viikon päästä pieni syysloma

 

Arki juoksee ja viikot katoaa huomaamatta. Elämä on täyttä ja hyvää. Kaiken keskellä saa onneksi jotakin valmiiksi asti. Puoli vuotta odotelleet tuftatut seinätekstiilit saivat vihdoin taakseen pahvit ja ripustimet. Nyt puuttuvat enää sopivat ruuvit sängyn yläpuolelta. Eipä uskoisi, että huomenna on jo lokakuu, tänään vielä keräsin kimpun puutarhakukkia.

Life is full, but good. It is unbelievable that tomorrow it's already October, today I was still able to collect a vase full of garden flowers. Finally the punch needled rugs are ready to be hang.

Tuftaten

Viimeaikoina, kerran viikossa olen viettänyt aikaa tuftaten. Päätin pysyä erossa itselleni luontaisimmasta kuviomaailmasta eli lehdistä tai linnuista ja rajoittaa itseni geometriaan. Kolmioita on nyt muutenkin joka paikassa, joten miksei sitten yhdessä seinätekstiilissä. Tai tyynyssä, en näet vielä ole päättänyt kumpaa teen. Aikaa saattaa olla vielä toiseen samanmoiseen, tai sitten siihen lintuun ja lehteen.

Tekniikka on aika yksinkertainen. Neula tekee pienellä avustuksella lankalenkkejä kankaan toiselle puolelle ja pintaa syntyy huomattavasti nopeammin kuin vaikka ryijyompelutekniikalla. Ihan heti en touhuun ihastunut, mutta nyt kun rytmi alkaa olla hyppysissä, on puuha jo hauskaa. Näitä välineitä ei kuitenkaan kotiin ole tulossa, sen verran hintava kapistus tuo neula on, vaikka jämälankojen hukkaamiseen tämä on loistava tekniikka. Kännykkäkamera ei oikein tee oikeutta väreille, mutta ryijytekniikoiden tapaan tässäkin työssä jokainen väri muodostetaan yhdistämällä useampi sävy.

Lately I have been doing some punch needle embroidery once a week. Learning a new method of working with yarn I also challenged my normal visual habits of working with natural themes like leaves and birds. I stricted myself to geometrics and chose some triangulars. Triangulars and chevron patterns are everywhere at the moment so why not in my own wall hanging or pillow. I haven't decided yet, which one I'm doing.

Wool and paperflowers/ Villaa ja paperikukkia

The past week has been quite a busy one: my birthday, Father's day, re-making our bedroom, re-organizing the study room and trying to get the everyday chores done as well. I might have helped to ease the hurry, if I had chosen not to do any crafts, but that doesn't happen so easily. The past weekend, I spend my free moments going crazy with wool. I knitted a pair of wrist warmers (totally inspired or you might even say copied from Liivia) and machine felted scarfs for my girls. They like the colorfulness of these, even though I think they lack a bit of sophistication. On the other hand fun and colorful don't that easily end up sophisticated. Well at this darkness of November we really need fun and colorfulness.

A bit more color found its' way into our bedroom with the new paint in the walls and one wall covered with the spring blooms of magnolia. The wallpaper is from Boråstapeter and we purchased it already in the lightness of summer, but it took once again a bit more time to get it on the wall. It was worth the wait and the timing was actually great. What could be better than having your magnolia in full bloom in November.


Kovin on ollut haipakka viikko: omat syntymäpäivät, isänpäivä, makuuhuoneen maalaus ja tapetointi, työhuoneen uudelleen organisointi ja siihen päälle vielä tavalliset arkiaskareet. Kiirettä olisi ehkä helpottanut, jos olisin jättänyt käsityövärkkäämiset suosiolla väliin, mutta niin ei nykyään ihan helposti käy. Menneen viikonlopun vietin hullutellen villan kanssa. Hahtuvasta kudoin Liivian inspiroimana (voit sanoa minun kopioineen) kämmekkäät, joista toiseen lisäsin virkatun kukkakoristeen. Tytöille pyörittelin pesukonehuovuttamalla värikkäät kaulahuivit. Värikäs ja ehkä hauskakin on lopputulos, mutta ei kovin hienostunut. Toisaalta värikäs, hauska ja hienostunut harvoin sopivat edes samaan lauseeseen. Tähän marraspimeyteen kaipaa kuitenkin eniten väriä ja kepeää hauskuutta.

Kepeyttä ja väriä sai myös makuuhuone osakseen uuden seinämaalin ja tapetin myötä. Tapetti on Boråstapeter:in Linné kokoelmasta ja sen hankimme jo viime kesän valoisuudessa, kesti jälleen vain hieman pidempään saada se seinälle. Lopputulos oli odotuksen arvoinen ja ajoituskin lopulta onnistunut, koska kukapa ei haluaisi nauttia magnolian kukkien loistosta keskellä marraskuuta.

Turning pink

For some years I was able to resist the pink revolution in our house. First I did my best by providing all sorts of colors in clothes of my daughters, but as it seems, about a three-year-old already knows, what colors she would like to wear. So first the closet of my elder daughter started to catch more and more hues of red.

And now, as I mentioned in one previous post, the color started to spread on walls. First I was a bit shocked by the pink in girls room, but now I've started to like it. Both my husband and I think that the pink wall compliments the old pull-out beds we got from a fleamarket. And I finally got a reason to make something out of this lovely Laura Ashley fabric, I found a year ago in a sales hamper.



Today I was able to add to the pinkness of this all a bunting, whichI finished yesterday evening. These buntings seem to be all over blog-universe. I had planned on making one about as long as I have been blogging, but I wanted first to have a pair of pinking shears to finish it . And I finally got myself a pair! With the price tag in them, you really need to consider for a while, whether you need them or not.

The bunting was a surprise for the girls and Elsi would have wanted to arrange a party right away, because now she had a bunting to party with. The party in their renewed room needed to wait though, because we were off to granny's.



The flower of clematis beneath is one example of the beauty in my mum's garden. I'm planning to show you more of the garden, because it's so lush and beautiful (and well, there's not that much to show in my own garden).

A House of colour

Today I made in our flat a little tour in search for orange and green colours and I was amazed with the results. There are definitely more of those colours around here than I had realized. I guess, I will have to give up and state that we are a family for colours. I keep on admiring all those beautiful, serene houses with all things white and pastel in magazines and blogs, but I think that is never really going to happen in here.
