Dreams come true?/ Todennettuja unelmia

The herbs are good on their way

Few things get me going like the gardening in the spring - well the books and good food do it too. I found all these three combined today, while browsing through the lovely cook book by Virginie Besancon. I noticed that with a bit of luck I might use these recipes with ingredients straight from our garden -later this summer.

The lavender doesn't look so promising,

but the zucchinis are filling the windowsills.

Harva asia saa minut keväisin yhtä innostuneeksi kuin puutarha - tai no hyvä ruoka ja kirjat saavat kyllä saman aikaan. Huomasin näiden kolmen yhdistyneen selaillessani jälleen Virginie Besanconin valloittavaa keittokirjaa Aurinkokeittiöni. Sain huomata, että kasvamassa tai kasvua odottelemassa on juuri kirjan resepteihin sopivia aineksia. Toki matkaa ruoista nautiskeluun on vielä pitkälti.

Mother's day/Äitienpäivä

To begin the day, I got a generous amount of self-made presents, a paper bowl filled with butter bisquits, a teddy keyring, a necklace and a bracelet. Part of the presents my husband made with the kids in a special evening occasion organized by the day-care.

We also made a visit to my mum's and her garden. Pennywort i.e. Hepatica noblilis is the traditional flower for mother's day boquets in Finland. We also admired the other spring flowers spreading in her garden, like Anemone nemorosa and Anemone ranuncoloides. I did a bit of foraging and gathered some stinging nettle. I'm not quite sure though what I'll make of them, because my girls can't stand any spinach and nettle and spinach taste almost the same.



Aamu alkoi avokätisellä lahjojen määrällä. Osan lahjoista tytöt olivat tehneet päiväkodissa, osan mieheni kanssa äitienpäiväaskarteluillassa (voiko tuo olla yksi sana?). Kävimme myös äitiäni tervehtimässä ja kierroksella hänen puutarhassaan. Ihastelimme perinteisiä sinivuokkoja ja muita kevätkukkia, kuten valkovuokkoja ja keltavuokkoja. Aloittelin myös villivihannesten kautta keräämällä nokkosta. Ongelma vain on, mitä niistä tekisi. Molemmat tytöt vihaavat pinaattia ja nokkonen on maultaan ja ulkomuodoltaan kovin lähellä kyseistä herkkua.
