I got mine/Kirjaherkku

Today I got my copy of the thoroughly beautiful book about summer houses in Hanko, Huvilan Hengessä by Pia-Maria Lehtola and Tomi Parkkonen. This book has been in the last weeks all around the Finnish blogs, but for a very good reason. I wish I had one of those old houses, or at least an old cottage. To live in a new house is nice and really practical, but it definitely lacks the character and feeling that old houses have to offer.

Nyt minullakin on se! Huvilan Hengessä-kirja on ehtinyt ennen tätä jo jokatoiseen suomalaiseen blogiin, mutta silti pidän omaa kappalettani postauksen arvoisena. Kirja on läpikotaisin kaunis, niin tekstin kuin etenkin kuvien osalta. Se nostaa kaipuuta omaan vanhaan taloon tai mökkiin. Onhan uudessa talossa mukavaa ja perin käytännöllistä asua, mutta vanhojen talojen luonnetta ja tunnetta on turha etsiä elementtitalosta.

Mousie/Hiirulainen

This little mouse is a last-minute gift I whipped-up yesterday, about an hour before leaving for a birthday party of a one-year-old. The pattern is from a sewing magazine from year 1997. I used a couple of my favorite fabrics. Embroidered the eyes and a border for the bottom. I think I will have to make more of these.

Hiirulainen on viimehetken lahjaompelus eiliseltä. Sujauttelin hiirun noin tunti ennen yksivuotissyntymäpäiville lähtöä. Kaava on peräisin vuoden 1997 Uudet Käsityöt-lehdestä. Käytin suosikkikankaitani. Kirjoin silmät ja pohjakappaleeseen reunuksen. Näitä voisin tehtailla lisääkin.

Before leaving the house to be a present for a cousin of my girls, the mousie met the bunny from the flea-market and the got a taste of the spring flowers in the kitchen.

Ennen lahjaksi lähtöä serkkutytölle hiirulainen ehti tavata kirppispupun ja tuoksutella kevätkukkasia keittiössä.

In my cup/Kupissa

Mostly my cup is filled with tea. It's tea for the breakfast, for the breaks at teacher's room and tea for the late evenings by the computer.

Jos kurkkaat kuppiini, löydät sieltä useimmiten teetä. Tee kuuluu aamupalalle, tauoille opehuoneessa ja teekuppi pitää hereillä pitkät illat tietokoneella.

The national drink of us Finns, the coffee, is reserved for the quality moments. The right time for coffee is at breakfast on weekends, in the afternoons after the work or while talking to a good friend. The problem with the coffee is that there has to be something sweet with it.

Kahvi, tuo jalo kansallisjuoma, on varattu juhlahetkiin. Kahvia nautiskelen rauhallisina viikonloppuaamuina (rauhallisuus on kyllä tässä talossa venyvä käsite), iltapäivisin töiden loputtua tai ystäviä tavatessa.Kahvin juonnissa on ongelmana tarve kahvikäntylle eli jotakin makeaa pitää oheen olla.

Hot chocolate is quite rare in my cup. It belongs to the cold season and especially in February. I prefer it the traditional way, made out of real cocoa powder and not too sweet.

Kaakao onkin sitten harvinaisempi herkku. Se kuuluu ehdottomasti kylmään vuodenaikaan ja etenkin helmikuuhun. Parasta on kunnon perinteinen tummasta kaakaojauheesta valmistettu, ei niin makea maitoherkku.
