A proper read/Kunnon lukemista

For quite a time now, I have provided my brain mainly fast-food and sweets, when it comes to reading. I have browsed stacks and piles of magazines concentrating on crafts and life-style. A proper book with real content has been quite a rarity on my night-table. It is so much easier to look at the pictures and read a couple of lines when the time is scarce. When I read, I like to get drawn into the world of the book and preferably stay there till the book is finished, however that isn't possible in a household with kids. The two following books are meant to serve as food for my brain - and they can be digested in smaller portions: The World Without Us by Alan Weisman and The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson. Through these books I've already learnt interesting details about New York, words for a series of plants and found a couple of new favorite poems. Makes me think: perhaps I should more often buy paperbacks instead of magazines.

Seuraavat kaksi kirjahankintaa on tarkoitettu aivojeni ruokavalion korjaamiseen ja ne ovat luonteeltaan sellaisia, että niitä voi nautiskella pienissä erissä: The World Without Us by Alan Weisman ja The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson. Nyt jo olen oppinut näiden välityksellä kiintoisia asioita New Yorkista, lukuisia kasvien nimiä englanniksi ja löytänyt uusia lempirunoja. Ehkä pitäisi useammin ostaa pokkari aikakauslehden sijasta.

Mun on pitänyt jo pitkään tutustua paremmin Dickinsoniin. Pari kertaa pyöritellyt kirjojaan jo käsissäkin kirjakaupassa.

Päärynäkuvassa on tunnelmaa.

oh, i can completely relate to you about the reading. i am just the same, but sometimes my mind misses the more 'meaty' books. so recently i joined a book-group, and that is good for me. they give me books and i must read them to keep up with the group.

i like the look of that emily dickinson poetry!

Hi Merruli, I love reading books but they are so expensive here in the bookshops. My daughter and I rejoined the local library at the weekend. I had forgotten how nice it is to browse the shelves and pick out books, lots and lots of them. Dev X

Melissa: A book-group sounds good and then you even get to share the reading experience.

The Fairy Glade: We have here in Finland excellent libraries. I usually get Finnish novels from library, but for English material it's easier to go for a bookshop. I wish you lots of happy reading and many lucky visits to your library!
