Lighting up/Sytytellen

Now it's dark by nine o'clock in the evening when a couple of months ago the whole night through was lighter than this. It's dark till seven o'clock in the morning and the time is not far away when there will only be a couple of hours of proper daylight in every day. In order to fight the darkness and even in our quest for enjoying it, we have been lighting our house in many ways. Lighting up the fire. Lighting up candles and eventually lighting the paper string ball, which I finished a year ago, but didn't bring myself earlier to put the string of lights into it. Actually I'm glad that I didn't finish it earlier, because now I have a brand new light sculpture to enjoy. (This idea of making a paper string ball with lights in it, is from the crafts school I attended last year as a hobby).

Aikaa en tosin viime vuonna löytänyt valaisimen loppuun asti saattamiseen. Tänään huomasin, että tuo vetkuttelu olikin hyvä asia, onhan minulla nyt aivan uusi valoveistos käytössä.

This string ball lamp is a nice idea. Is it difficult to make? What is the secret to it?

The ball is made over a round balloon. You'll have make the paper string thoroughly wet in a wood-glue and water mixture and then just start putting the string around the balloon until the whole balloon is covered. When the gluey string is all dry you can brake the balloon, and it should hold its' form alone. It really is as simple as it sounds.

What beautiful lights! How nice to enjoy the darkness with such beauty lighting it up in places.

What a marvellous idea for a lamp. I love candles but have my husband moaning all the time about burning the house down. The nights are drawing in here too, though we don't have the darkness to the same extent as you do. It seems strange to us that you go about your daily life in darkness during the winter months and then at other times you live in constant daylight. Have a lovely weekend. Dev X

Elävä valo on parasta tähän vuodenaikaan.

Todella upea tuo narupallo!

Dev: My grandmother doesn't accept any candles near her, because she is so afraid of their fire potential. For my wedding I even left the candles out of the table decorations, because I wanted to have my Granny there more than candles. Well, It's a new weekend already, but I wish you a nice one!
